Don Wharton is responsible for leading both TransAlta’s sustainability initiatives and its government relations activities. In the sustainability area, his responsibilities include implementing TransAlta’s strategic approach to environmental policy and climate change. He is also responsible for leading TransAlta’s joint policy initiatives with governments, and for TransAlta’s work with aboriginal communities across Canada. Mr. Wharton joined TransAlta in 1994 and has worked in the energy and environment field for almost 30 years. Prior to this role, Mr. Wharton worked in both the Sustainable Development and Energy Marketing Departments at TransAlta, and previously in both the public sector and as an environmental consultant. Mr. Wharton is chairman of the Canadian Clean Power Coalition (CCPC) an organization focused on developing cleaner combustion technologies for power generation. He has a bachelor of science in Chemical Engineering from the University of Calgary.
